It was a lovely day and a real coastal path, the chilly wind of the last few days had gone and in places it was very warm. Some parts were rather challenging but we were spurred on when the hotel appeared in the distance. A considerable chunk of the path had disappeared through subsidence and had been re-routed and it was good to get to the top, from where it really was downhill all the way. There just remained the return journey to Fishbourne for the car ferry and the worse than usual traffic problems in Newport.
The HF Hotel overlooking the bay with the view from Room 44!
A typical Johnson/Price false
start today. We caught the
No 12 Bus to Brighstone, got off
at the first stop in the village,
walked to the pub, couldn’t find
the lane we wanted, but a very
helpful old lady and dog offered
to show us the way (the dog
was particularly helpful).
The lane was actually almost
opposite our original bus stop! By the time we reached the IOW Pearl shop we had already done 2 miles, but at least we were now on the path.
This was the return home day of our HF break, so we decided to make the most of the opportunity to cross off a few more miles of the path.
5. Freshwater Bay to Brighstone ... or vice versa!
