Once again our start was at Old Winchester Hill car park which today was packed.
Our route was not at all straight forward today, but by holding the map upside down, we navigated our way successfully. We really could see for miles today and spotted the spire of Privett Church a real landmark along the A272.
South Downs Way legs
Old Winchester Hill to East Meon 5 miles
A steep downhill path led us to Whitewool Farm, a huge dairy farm, but first we had to negotiate a field full of cows. Liz likes cows so not a problem for her, but Allison has read too many stories in the press about walkers being trampled to death by cows so is scared stiff of them! A potentially difficult decision might possibly have to be made of death by trampling or impalement on a barbed wire fence, thankfully neither happened and we made it safely through the field. The next field contained a bull but luckily we had to turn left.
We had lunch sitting on a convenient bank (will leave out a possible joke) and being entertained by a few cyclists flying past.
What do you mean, who's the daddy!
Back at the car and another 5 miles clocked up in perfect weather.
Someone else who has done this walk is Clare Balding, though she went the other way towards Winchester. This is well worth listening to as there is much information about the places of interest on the route. Click here to listen.
